Its very common opinion that the need for religion is diminishing in our time. Im not agree. I think that the foundation of this statement lays in statistics. We see that churches are empty (maybe in Poland Catholic tradition is stronger than in Western Europe) but that is only one point of view. The other, which I represented, see that we live in post-modernism age and the need stays at the same level but the form of religion has to be changed. I read statistic half year ago which said that over 90% of people told that they need God (or they are interested in religion) but only half of them need church. I think that tradition isn't enough nowadays . I'm the leader of small fellowship in Catholic church. In 2000 we had about 20-25 members. Right now over 200 people comes to our meetings. Third of these people didnt belong to any denomination or different religion at all. I know over hundred leaders of charismatic fellowships across country and their community are also growing. Of course that charismatic movement is minority in Poland but the same situation was in South America in late 60-ies. Right now for example in Argentina charismatic movement (protestants mainly) are majority.
I think that people are interested in good music, relation, lively and dynamic meetings (not boring hour in a mass). So church in Poland has to change, if he don't he will be empty but the need for religion stays the same.
